President's Message

                        Updated on November 6, 2025

Dear NCME Colleagues,

Dear NCME Colleagues,

November brings momentum on several fronts, as we wrapped up October with a strong and successful AIME Conference, followed by an engaging convening of the NCME Board. Thank you for the energy you’re bringing—in sessions, committee work, and informal gatherings alike.

AIME‑Con: Thank You for an Exceptional Event

What a week in Pittsburgh! Our inaugural Artificial Intelligence in Measurement and Education Conference (AIME‑Con) reached capacity and started with a hands‑on training day followed by two packed days of papers and panels. The theme—Innovation and Evidence: Shaping the Future of AI in Educational Measurement—came through in every session. Thank you to organizers Joshua Wilson, Christopher Ormerod, and Maggie Beiting‑Parrish, our presenters, sponsors, and volunteers. If you attended and have not yet done so, please fill out the conference and training surveys. Additionally, the proceedings for a selection of the papers are here. Check out some pictures from the event.

Board of Directors Meeting: Keeping the Momentum Going

As previewed last month, the NCME Board met following AIME‑Con for our third meeting of the year. We reflected on the success of AIME‑Con, reviewed the updated 2025 budget and previewed the 2026 budget, discussed the upcoming NCME website transition (see more information later in the News), heard an update on the Standards revision process from Kristen Huff (NCME’s Liaison to the Joint Committee for the Revision of the Standards), Jeffrey Steedle, and Doris Zahner (co-chairs of the NCME Standards and Test Use Committee), revisited our strategic‑vision discussion, and checked progress on ongoing initiatives.

I’m grateful to my fellow Board members and committee leaders for their service and the thoughtful preparation that makes these conversations productive.

One More Nudge: Call for Nominations for Three Open Board Seats

Please take a moment to nominate yourself or a colleague for NCME leadership. The Nominating Committee invites nominations for three positions:

  • Vice President / President‑Elect
  • Board Member from a State or Federal Educational Agency or Organization
  • Board Member at Large

Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. PT on November 14, 2025. Voting members will receive ballots in mid‑December, with voting closing in mid‑January. The three elected directors will begin their three-year terms in April 2026. Learn more about Board responsibilities here. Submit a nomination here.

Calling All Leaders of Content and Assessment Specialists: Participate in a Focus Group

NCME is hosting a focus group with leaders of content and assessment specialists to explore how we can better serve, support, and engage these vital contributors to the measurement pipeline. Please email NCME@ncme.org if you have suggested participants for this focus group.

I’m grateful for the ways our membership shows up for one another—sharing research, mentoring and collaborating, and volunteering your time.

Warmly,

Amy Hendrickson

NCME President, 2025
