President's Message – October 2025

By Liz Stringer posted 10-08-2025 05:45 PM

Dear NCME Colleagues,

As we move into fall, NCME continues to thrive with activity and connection. From a lively regional gathering to a near-capacity AIME-Con, and from upcoming Board discussions to collaborative webinars, the energy across our community is inspiring. Each of these efforts reflects the spirit of our shared mission—advancing educational measurement in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Making Our Way to L.A.: The October 2nd Event in Yardley, PA was a Success!

Over 30 members joined me for our first regional meet-up, including President-Elect Kadriye Ercikan, Board Member Rochelle Michel (who first suggested the idea of regional meet-ups), EM:IP editor Heather Buzick, and Past President Randy Bennett. Conversations flowed as members reconnected and met new colleagues from across the region. I can’t wait to continue the momentum at our next event! More information to come soon.

AIME Conference: Almost at Capacity – Don’t Miss Out!

With over 400 registrants, AIME-Con is nearly full! If you haven’t yet registered, now’s the time. The event will be held in Pittsburgh, October 27–29, and features a full day of hands-on training followed by two days of sessions exploring a variety of topics in the future of Artificial Intelligence in Measurement and Education. Learn more and register via the conference website

Upcoming NCME Board Meeting

Following AIME-Con, the NCME Board will convene for our third meeting of the year. We’ll review the 2026 budget, reflect on the successes of AIME-Con, continue planning for the 2026 Annual Meeting, revisit our strategic vision discussion from July, and review progress on several ongoing initiatives. I’m looking forward to another productive and forward-thinking discussion with the Board.

NCME 2026 Annual Meeting: Update from the Co-Chairs

Don’t miss the update later in this newsletter from the 2026 Annual Meeting Co-Chairs! Thanks to all who contributed to the impressive number of proposal submissions and to everyone volunteering as reviewers. Visit the conference webpage for additional details about our April 2026 meeting in Los Angeles, or reach out to the program co-chairs at NCMEprogramchairs@NCME.org with questions.

The Next BRIDGE Webinar: October 29th!

The BRIDGE initiative (Boosting Research In a Dynamic Governing Environment)—a collaboration among AEFP, AERA, APPAM, NCME, and SREE—continues to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue. The next webinar, hosted by APPAM, is titled Navigating Uncertainty in Policy Research Grants & Funding in the U.S.: Trends, Challenges, & the Future, and will be held on Wednesday, October 29th at 3:00 PM ET. See more information about this important webinar online. Please register here, and find more information about the BRIDGE initiative here. If you have ideas for a future NCME-sponsored BRIDGE webinar, I’d love to hear from you.

The Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S. Department of Education has issued a Request for Information (RFI) regarding “how IES can modernize its programs, processes, and priorities to better serve the needs of the field and American students.” The RFI was posted in the Federal Register and may be viewed hereNCME has engaged on the topic, consulting with other organizations including Friends of IES, and has submitted a high-level response reinforcing the importance of pursuing a principled approach. You may see our RFI response hereWe encourage any NCME members and other interested stakeholders to provide individual responses to the RFI.

Calling All Leaders of Content and Assessment Specialists: Participate in a Focus Group

NCME is hosting a focus group with leaders of content and assessment specialists to explore how we can better serve, support, and engage these vital contributors to the measurement pipeline. Please email NCME@ncme.org if you have suggestions for participants for this focus group.

Thank you, as always, for your engagement and commitment to NCME’s mission. Your energy fuels our progress—and as we make our way to L.A., I look forward to connecting with even more of you along the way.

Warmly,

Amy Hendrickson
